Review of Blade Runner (1982) by Carter D — 31 Aug 2014
This is science fiction, or as it is called thinking man's science fiction. The film is slow, no spaceships, aliens or fantastical planets. While it does take place in a future with machines and changed technology, it still causes the audience to think, which is a huge quality.
Harrison Ford stars as Rick Deckard, a retired cop who is tasked to hunt down a group of robots who have fled to Earth after a murder on a planet. The cinematography is striking in this film, bringing forth a nostalgic feel, as does the music by Vangelis which is both hypnotic and beautiful.
The supporting cast, including Rutger Hauer as the leading robot, Sean Young, Joe Turkel and Daryl Hannah, is outstanding, as well as the production design and costumes. While the film is slow, it will remain memorable and as one of Ridley Scott's best films.
