Review of Blade Runner (1982) by Dylan V — 24 Mar 2013
Okay, I feel like a douchebag for not watching this sooner. It's a truly timeless tale. Does double duty as sci-fi and noir and works beautifully as both. Rutger Hauer is creepy as hell, and while I didn't think Harrison Ford gave a particularly impressive performance, his was good enough and he felt like he was made for the role and no one else would have fit just right.
The cinematography was breathtaking even now, 30 years after it was released. The synth score by Vangelis fit incredibly well. The film was dripping with atmosphere. It's one I'll probably want to watch again and again to see all of its various forms, and it's a good thing too because there are multiple cuts that have been released over the years.
