Review of Blade Runner (1982) by Dawid R — 15 Jan 2014
QUESTION: Has anybody heard about the cartoon version?
While Hampton Fancher, and/or Ridley Scott, and/or David Peoples, may not have had this in mind back when both versions of the film were brand new, it is rather obvious that main chatacter, Deckard, is NOT a replicant in the regular version of the movie!! In the directors cut version Deckard is a replicant. (Ridley Scott has already said that Deckard is a replicant & tho he was specifically referring to the directors cut, he didn't mention the regular version of the movie while making that statement. And if he were to not agree, and/or understand, that distinction, then, he'd be wrong! He'd still be a great director, tho.).
Ridley Scott is a god among directors!
I liked the regular version and the directors cut. In fact, the directors cut version has gotten so popular that I find it to be somewhat overated; but, that has more to do with the fans who like to cut hairs, going back & forth between these two versions of the movie. I love this movie! However, I read the book and it was terrible!
While I did not know Philip K. Dick personally and I have only read this one book of his, the book that this movie was based on, I have to say that he wasn't much of a science fiction writer beyond making up good idea's. He may have been great at making up cool & innovative idea's in fact; but, his ability of actually adapting those idea's to stories, with character's & plot twist's, etc., obviously seemed to be something that was far beyond his capabilities. Perhaps he should have been a screenwriter, for movies and/or for tv, where he would have had his idea's adapted into something that actually worked & perhaps he wouldn't have been allowed to release something that sucks under those conditions, which is exactly what he did with the book upon which this movie is based.
"Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep" was a terrible book! Pick it up and read it if you don't believe me.
