This is the perfect example of a great sci-fi film. Blade Runner is dark, emotional, and very clever in it's execution. The story focuses on a "blade runner" (Harrison Ford), which is basically a detective who tracks down artificial humans who have become self aware and escaped from their masters.

It's much more than just futuristic film noir. Blade Runner forces the audience to sympathize with the artificially manufactured "replicant" humans, while simultaneously feeling threatened by them.

Who can blame these replicants after all? To me they have developed self awareness to the same level as humans, and have simply succumbed to self preservation. The film raises many questions, like at what point should we stop advancing artificial intelligence? At some point we begin to create machines capable of feeling pain and sadness, is this a moral thing to do? Blade Runner is similar to Alien in it's atmosphere, it's a nice touch by Riddley Scott.

The film is a bit slow and drags through the first half, but the nerve wracking cat and mouse finale greatly makes up for it.
