Review of Blade Runner (1982) by Joe T — 02 Jan 2015
Ridley Scott, he's not too shabby at this film making lark really... Not happy with making the best sci-fi horror ever with Alien, Scott took hs inspiration from one of cult sci-fi writer Philip K Dick's best known novels, and with it, created another one of the finest sci-fi movies ever made. Set in LA in the year 2019, the movie still looks amazingly futuristic, despite being shot in 1982.
Although bombing at the box office on its release, Blade Runner gained a cult following with discerning sci-fi connoisseurs, and the forthcoming 25th.
Anniversary 5-DVD set is surely testament to this film's staying power!
Harrison Ford is perfectly cast as the cool as you like android hunter Deckard (one of his most iconic roles along with Han Solo and Indiana Jones), and with support from Rutger Hauer, Darryl Hannah and Sean Young who all give magnificent performances, what's not to like here?
What about that Vangelis synth score too?
