Review of Blade Runner (1982) by Andrew R — 05 Oct 2017
With the upcoming release of the new Blade Runner 2049 it was time to watch the original Blade Runner. Unfortunately I fall on the end of the spectrum that is not a huge fan of this film. With all the talk of this being a classic, one of the best science fiction films, and great ratings, a lot was expected of this movie.
A lot of the praise is for the cinematography and visual effects. Scott created a world that was believable and feels line viewers are there are common themes. I have a hard time judging this to be honest since the movie is so dated. I can appreciate the films world though. I do feel that the rest of the film was weak with mediocre acting, uninteresting poorly developed characters, superficial storyline and professing with explanation. I understand that Blade Runners hunt Replicants but what are they all about? Why are they called Blade Runners? The film just progresses too much without explaining what happened.
Overall I feel the film is overrated. Similar to Mad Max Fury Road, I expect Blade Runner 2049 to be far superior than the original.
