Review of Blade Runner (1982) by Phillip V — 13 Feb 2014
I saw this movie at the Cinerama in Seattle, Washington. It was, and still is, the greatest movie experience of my life. I don't think it will ever be topped, and if it is, that will be a historic day in my life. The version they played was the "Final Cut" edition, and while I really didn't see much of a difference between it and the Directors cut version, the enormity of the visuals projected on the screen were so breath taking it made my eyes water in awe. This film is simply a perfect film experience. I'm not saying the film is perfect, it's just that every time I watch it I gain something new from it. I think about it differently every time. I feel different for each character every time. I notice details that I neglected to catch every time.
It is an intelligent film, and yet, it has the action of a summer blockbuster. It's philosophy is challenging, but presented in a manor that is easily digested. This was the golden age for Ridley Scott and this will always be my favorite film he directed. In fact, I think I'm going to watch it again right now.
