Review of Blade II (2002) by Davey M — 24 Aug 2010
Excellent archetypal action movie where people kill vampires real good. Wesley Snipes isn't the most compelling action hero, but he's serviceable enough--Ron Perlman is always fun to watch, however, and Kris Kristofferson is a total badass.
What makes any of this worthwhile, though, is Guillermo Del Toro's direction, and he does here what he always does best--"Blade II" has got great production design and cinematography, and the storytelling is deeply rooted in myth (at times, it's more reminiscent to me of the first two "Star Wars" films than anything)--and, in the process, he also shows that he is one of the few filmmakers around who can genuinely direct big-scale, big-budget action scenes.
