Review of Blade II (2002) by Scott W — 08 Aug 2010
Wesley Snipes as Blade and Kris Kristofferson as Whistler return as the vampire hunting duo in Blade 2, excpet this time they're joined by several other badasses led by Ron Perlman to fight an even bigger threat: a diseased breed of super-vampire-zombie-mutant-things.
Blade 2 is better than the first Blade thanks to several things:
Guillermo Del Torro directed this one, and I really like the visual style he brought to it. I could see lots of stuff that I remember seeing shades of in future projects of his, Hellboy & Hellboy 2.
I think he also chose to devote more time to the story rather than just special effects and vampire fights like they did in the first one (which, make no mistake, were still awesome).
Blade 2 is still pretty dumb, but not as dumb as the first and has enough story, characters, fight-scenes and badassedry to make this the best Blade of the trilogy.
