Review of Blade (1998) by Kussai N — 08 Aug 2012
Nothing's really changed since the first vampire appeared on the big screen in 1921. The fanged creatures don't like going out during the day and haven't become accustomed to the taste of garlic. In 'Blade', however, the blood-loving vampires aren't effected by holy water of the Crucifix and can tolerate sunlight as long as they're wearing sunblock. It's these sort of inventive plays on the traditional lore that makes this action-packed offering rather intriguing, but the film is by no means a completely satisfying venture. Wesley Snipes looks good as the cool title character, but his portrayal of Blade is considerably dull. Thankfully, the lovely N'Bushe Wright is very good and the always watchable Stephen Dorff (delicious as the villain of the piece) adds a high standard of quality and class to this vampire flick.
'Blade' might be overlong and (overall) disappointing, but there's some great moments here. The action sequences are well done and there's a very sexy blood-sucking kiss between Snipes and Wright.
