Review of Blade (1998) by David B — 11 Mar 2013
Achieves just the right combination of lore and fetishized action movie. Though slick and diverting in some aspects, increasingly silly pic has trouble meshing disparate elements -- horror, superhero fantasy, straight-up action -- into a workable whole.
Snipes plays his superhero character with such aching coolness that you can't wait for the next dumb-ass vampire to get in his way, which proves the point that this is a Wesley Snipes film, he is Blade, Stephen Doff is acceptable as Frost but it's the simple special effects that take control of the film.
The plot is alright, about the the last half breed who is the chosen one for sacrificial but that's it. Better than some vampire films anyway. Worth a look, if only for it's comic book violence which it's based on and good camp hardcore acting.
Better out there though.
