Review of Blacula (1972) by Andy N — 03 May 2008
Blacula. 70's fare that is strangely not as scary as I remember it to be. Of course, the first time I saw it I was 10 years old... at the drive-in... in the dark... with a full moon... at Halloween. Now that I'm older the only thing scary about Blacula is his sense of fashion. Frilly silk shirts unbuttoned to the navel - gruesome. Bell-bottom pants with platform shoes - hideous. Afros that add 11 inches to your height - frightening. There you have it, Blacula was gruesome, hideous and frightening.
Oh, and that soundtrack that could have come from The Mod Squad or Starsky & Hutch - Bloodcurdling.
