Review of Blacula (1972) by Jimmy M — 25 Oct 2008
Its better than it should be, given the title. A subgenre of blaksplotation films made horror movies with black actors. William Marshall, a respected stage actor, took the role of the dead African Prince Mamuwalde, who is turned into a vampire by Count Dracula and cursed to be Dracula's black counterpart, Blacula.
Sheesh. But the film is better than it should be and provides a few frights. Canuck actor Gordon Pincent is cast as an LA cop; he soon returned to Canada to act on stage and in CBC miniseries.
