Review of BlacKkKlansman (2018) by Tom L — 12 Aug 2018
Essential viewing for those who still don't believe "President" Donald J. Trump is the worst thing to happen to America since Richard Nixon. In this film you will watch your fellow Americans -- non-actors -- getting run over in the streets by a white supremacist in Charlottesville, WV.
You will bear witness to things and hear sentiments throughout that jettison you right back to the Jim Crow era. Spike Lee not only impressed me with the way he manages to keep you pinned between laughter and despair, but Topher Grace -- bravely portraying hatred personified in former KKK Grandmaster David Duke -- earned my respect.
The son of the great Denzel Washington plays Ron Stallsworth, a black officer for the Colorado Springs Police Department who attempts to infiltrate and destroy the local chapter of the KKK from the inside, using Adam Driver's white (and Jewish) Flip Zimmerman as his own racially disguised avatar on the streets.
Utterly compelling (and fucked up) stuff.
