Review of BlacKkKlansman (2018) by Jonathan S — 13 Aug 2018
This has been a great year for cinema, and especially for Black representation in film. With films like Sorry to Bother You and Blindspotting, the Academy seriously does need to reevaluate itself after so much outcry over Black representation in film with quality films of this caliber.
BlacKkKlansman is no different. It is a movie that could easily have been made anytime as the story is no less incredible when it is told, but the fact it has come out now makes the message all the more damning.
BlacKkKlansman is upfront with its boldness, and makes clear who the villains of society are. While its not as nuanced as the previous two films I mentioned, the commentary is no less raw in its importance.
It is a movie that needs to be seen by everybody. Black, white, Christian, Jew, everybody.
