Review of BlacKkKlansman (2018) by Il L — 14 Aug 2018
Mix a large amount of commentary on the racial climate of the US, with annoyingly unbalanced and loud background music, not amusing race jokes, No character development. Spike Lee has really lost his touch.
His attempts to contrast comical fiction with surreal truth just doesn't work. It neither contributes to the story telling nor gives accuracy to the truth. During the whole movie he uses racist blackface movies to bring to forth america's racial pop culture, which works until he tries to reverse it in a way that makes his own film equally incredulous.
I really miss films like Do the Right Thing & Bamboozled. Films that really highlighted the black community as well as the intersections of itself as 3 dimensional. This was just a wasteful 2 hours of viewing and many more of production.
