Review of BlacKkKlansman (2018) by Joseph L — 14 Aug 2018
When going to see this movie, I was expecting a buddy cop comedy, with a twist at the end that would make me think, in typical Lee fashion. What I got was a thrillingly eye opening and sometimes disturbing experience with such a large degree of charm, style and zest. While I laughed, nothing about this film is funny. Lee's attention to detail booth in the camera shots and script are very groundbreaking, as always. This movie was a total return to form.
The acting was uncanny. The duo of John David Washington and Adam Driver was so fun to watch. Both actors were at the top of their game. everyone who played members of the "organization" were exceptionally evil. Laura Harrrier was my favorite performance, playing a strong, fierce activist exceptionally well. Finally, Topher Grace played a fantastic David Duke, which showcased how full of himself, yet unintelligent, this man is.
I do not wish to spoil anything in this review. So I will leave you with this. The end is a cinematic masterpiece. It was exceptionally gripping, and left the audience in silence walking out of the room. The ending will make you realize how relevant the story that Lee just portrayed is today.
