Review of Blackfish (2013) by Gabrielle B — 26 Dec 2013
The shock value and tragedy that this film portrays and has gone viral over is certainly present, and the film is effective in delivering uncomfortable truths for even the most skeptical viewers that would have reason to distrust this one.
..and to be fair, the marketing of this film has been anything but objective. Having said that, the film does end up drawing some very cliched conclusions (the bit on selling Shamu dolls could have been written by a high school Marxist), and avoids statistical analysis that could have diminished the frequency and likelihood that the attacks the film centers around have of occurring.
The lack of official comment from Seaworld also hurts e final product...the filmmakers seemed very content to let the refusal of comment be on the only representation of Seaworld as opposed to doing their own investigation into the brand's actual training policies.
Well made, but inconclusive.
