Review of Blackfish (2013) by Heather T — 29 Dec 2013
Been to seaworld? See the whale show? Enjoy it? This will make you think again. A look at the moral and safety issues surrounding the captivity of killer whales for human entertainment and financial gain.
Focusing on the famous Seaworld whale show and exploring the past accidents and deaths involving trainers, this is a real eye opener. The cover ups lies and manipulated PR campaigns that follow such incidents are exposed without ever coming across as sensationalist and that's where the quality shows here.
Many former trainers and whale experts provide convincing arguments for putting an end to an overlooked issue. Seaworld declined to be interviewed for this doc and it's clear why, they don't have a real case against it.
Very well made affecting and from someone who neither know nor cared about whales had me hooked.
