Review of Blackfish (2013) by Yash B — 15 Jul 2014
Captive Killer Whales have killed people, and documented here is some of what happened and why.
These are some of the trainers and their stories.
Riveting. Infuriating. Horrifying. Well Articulated. Compassionate. Cautionary. Insightful.
Carefully meted out.
What Free Willy started, this should be the final word.
The key points of their stories are here, but it steps into sensationalism just a bit, enough to make me concerned.
Not a complete, balanced message, but there is enough information to clearly give heed to the problems and a few solutions.
Highly recommended, but not perfect - one main element of the story is missing.
The most savage death - of a senior trainer - tho wisely not shown "does not show her full experience" as her family stated in reaction to the film.
That is too important to overlook, tho the film gets credit for explaining a potentially volatile situation as literally "an accident waiting to happen.".
Well handled for what is shown and what is not shown, this is a must see movie, but be prepared for the jarring reality that it depicts.
4 out of 5.
