Review of Blackfish (2013) by Crystal E — 19 Mar 2015
As far as documentaries go they did a fair job. The movie is pretty and focused to the point with a nice linear time line. That was what earned it the four stars.
All the hype and the fact that people are outraged about this one particular animal earns a firm 2 from me. Apes are super smart and with similar needs, we cage those. Pigs often show similar signs and we eat those by the pound. You cannot just choose to be all uppity about one but not the others.
The fact that people have been watching things about Orcas and dolphins for years now that depict them, killing, raping and torturing and are suddenly shocked that they might kill a trainer is a face palm sort of moment. Was anyone surprised that a lion went for softies? No. They are animals, it is what they do. Just like caged up people but we seem content to put them in prisons to rot and expect them to come out just fine too.
Meh. Documentary was good, people and their hyper focused hypo racy is not.
