Review of Black Widows (2016) by Keoni B — 07 Sep 2016
This film is so much more than it lets on.
Of course the tagline said it was a dark comedy, but I was not prepared.
For just how funny the exploration of this situation could be.
Black Widows mines for laughs in taboo locations and strikes great.
Veins of gold.
Of course, I expected a few zingers here and there, but I was not.
Expecting the rapid fire, "blinkandyou'llmissagem" kind of back and.
Forth I saw here.
That being said-- The humor isn't for dummies, it's not for slow pokes,.
And the viewer will appreciate that (if you're into that kind of.
Thing).
The film also takes the heaviest subject imaginable, and alternates.
Underscoring the gravity of the crime with (much appreciated and.
Needed) comedic relief.
The story is meticulously mapped out. Every question is answered.
Creatively and in detail. "Wait, why didn't she just go to the cops?
Oh, because this, this, this, this, this. Of course she couldn't go to.
The cops." Such attention to detail in a familiar situation (murder) is.
Refreshing.
In the end, the dramatic elements were well done... However, both.
Director and actors are at their best when they are delivering the.
Laughs. They DO deliver, and do so in spades.
I'd be extremely curious to see what this obviously talented director.
Could accomplish on a bigger film...
