Review of Black Water (2008) by Matt R — 26 Jan 2009
Creepy, creepy, creepy.
The story was way better than in most animal-turned-to-mankiller movies, and the actions of the stranded persons were believable in most cases.. not too typical ending either, and as a great fan of all "monster/animal eats a man" movies I definitely think this was one of the best ones I've seen. it lacked the underlining stupidity and cliches that so stain the most movies in the genre. plus points for the crocodile - it's not often when the monster in these kind of films is actually allowed to act like it would in real life and in nature, as a predator, just a hungry beast definding it's territory, not some super-intelligent and bloodthirsty devil. the crocodile wins the acting award in this one for superb honesty.
The movie is also a really good show-off of how it is possible to get high suspense and even horror in very small limited stage with only few elements and things to build on. I also loved the slow camera and stillness of the shooting, worked really well in creating the atmosphere when all you can really do is to worry, fear and wait. wait. wait.
