Review of Black Swan (2010) by Dave M — 11 Feb 2013
Aronofsky seems just like his title character. He pushes himself to perfection in his style, edits, angles, colors, casting, etc. Black Swan is such a technically sound film you can't help but appreciate its craft. Whether or not you thought it was entertaining, you must applaud the directors daring take on Swan Lake. The movie goes to a lot of fucked up places but never to the point of "too crazy" for my tastes. That is, you have to get really fucked up to surprise me. Trainspotting and Irreversible are what I consider to be truly fucked up. Black Swan is dark and disturbing but stays within the realm of melodramatic horror.
Aside from Aronofsky's perfection as a director, the other huge standout was NatPort who easily gives her greatest performance yet, and in my opinion is the only frontrunner so far for Best Actress Oscar. Allow me now to segue-way into what I'm sure you've all been waiting for...
The sex scene...

Yay. Ok, so Mila Kunis (who didn't really stand out to me in this film as much as she should have) and NatPort get it on. It starts with some heavy make outing and leads to some nice disrobbing. No nips, no bush slips, but the idea of Kunis chowing down on NatPort's bearded clam was more than enough to make "it" move. One Negatron point I have with this scene and its eroticness; they're both way too fucking skinny. Yeah, they're hot, but somebody give these dancers a sandwich. Zero cushion for the pushin.
To me, Black Swan was the perfect companion piece to Aronofsky's previous film; The Wrestler. But I think he's said all he's needed to say, and its time he takes on his big studio picture The Wolverine. I could not be more excited that one of today's most gifted and smart directors will be directing a stand alone Wolverine X-Men film.
