Review of Black Swan (2010) by Jovan J — 26 May 2013
I didn't expect this film to be as similar to The Wrestler as it ended up being, but that's not necessarily a bad thing. As someone who knows nothing of the dance world, I thought this was a really interesting peek into the world of ballet and the pressures they face and the cutthroat manner in which the business operates.
I really liked the level of surreality maintained over the whole film and all the performances were great and spot-on, especially Portman, though I thought the introduction of the horror elements towards the end made it seem a little silly in some ways, but the erratic nature of the film did seem to match the character's internal struggle.
