Review of Black Swan (2010) by Maria M — 22 Mar 2015
Natalie Portman is a tour de force. It could've been about football, hockey, baking cookies, her commitment and release into the role is insane (no wonder her character does go mad). All other characters are irrelevant, especially Cassel, who is the epitome of the "company director/owner french clichê" with his yells and kisses and seductive moves, was very meh, which is a pity cuz he has the goods (and is sexy as hell).
But her descent into madness together with her dancing and the blending of the black and white swan, and Mila Kunis really pushing forward Portman's performance (who knew Mila Kunis had so much "acting" in her? What a good surprise), this film is spectacular.
I am not one of Aronofsky's biggest fans, I like Pi but think Requiem is one of the most over rated movies ever and would never rematch it, but this one hits the mark, all because of Natalie Portman.
So I guess Aronofsky had something to do with it... Bravo Natalie!
