Review of Black Swan (2010) by Pedro P — 20 Jan 2013
Yes here it is, the rare either love it or hate it kind of movie. Natalie Portmans Oscar winning performance in the indie smash of 2010 proved how ballerinas can now be ranked scarier then clowns and ghosts.
Portmans performance as unstable psychotic perfectionist Nina Sayers(The Swan Queen) is so sad and real its haunting. With Mila Kunis Golden Globe nominated performance as the eye catching manipulative Lily(The Black Swan) who steals Ninas heart? Jealousy? Mind? but that isnt Ninas only problem as she is also stuck between Mommie Dearest Erica Sayers(The Queen) played by Oscar nominated Barbara Hershey and a hard man I mean "rock" .
.. That 'hard rock' is the director of Swan Lake, Thomas Leroy(The Gentleman) played by Ceasar award winner Vincent Cassel, and he exposes her to all the things Ninas EXTREMELY creepy mom(but obviously AMAZING performance, definately one of the creepiest mothers ever) has been trying to "protect" her from such as fingering and ferocity.
This psychological thriller cant be seen just once! Literally im not just trying to compliment the movie, you will watch it more then once because of the confussion. And then you may discuss among film scholars what the fuck the meaning is, why this talented little ballet dancer destructs a brutal demise.
What I believe is the meaning is that (P.S this is like the third time ive updated what I think the meaning is and their will probaly be a fourth and a fifth and so on becuase to many of them run through my head plus I havent seen the movie in like 2 months so once I watch it again a bunch of new shit will pop up) she discovers she is a lesbian and Lily is her first girl crush and she cant figure shit out because of the way she was raised all while the most important event of her life is coming up.
..= self destruction. Just becuase a movie makes you think with graphic content doesnt mean its bad if anything a higher ranking is in order.
