Review of Black Sunday (1960) by Stephen M — 14 Oct 2007
A stunningly atmospheric horror movie. The opening scene still has the capacity to shock but, on the whole, Bava was still mastering his craft here and it's a little rough around the edges. "Kill, Baby.
..Kill!", for example, is far superior. Barbara Steele, playing two roles, excels as the evil witch Asa but is less convincing as the innocent Katia; perhaps I've just seen too many of her subsequent movies.
