Review of Black Sheep (2010) by Francisco G — 18 Oct 2011
Black Sheep looks like one of those movies that has a funny trailer and DVD cover, but the movie itself is miserable and painful to watch (like Thankskilling). This movie about killer sheep is so much more.
What attracted me to it is that the special effects were done by Peter Jackson's Weta Workshop and they are gloriously funny and gory. A lot of this film reminded me of Jackson's zombie masterpiece Dead Alive, but with mad sheep and the stunningly beautiful New Zealand countryside as a backdrop.
This works more as a gory comedy than horror film, as you'll be laughing more than being scared. There was one extremely funny part where a sheep drives a truck off a cliff; the visual gag alone had me in stitches.
Plus, one of the supporting characters is named "Experience," which is funny given her personality. Black Sheep is a ridiculous idea that doesn't try to hit its obvious camp on the audience's head like a blunt instrument.
It's ridiculous but the characters have personality and it's creative in its gore, so that's why it's worth a viewing especially if you liked Dead Alive.
