Review of Black Sheep (1996) by Caleb G — 25 May 2009
Following in the footsteps of Shaun of the Dead and Severance, Black Sheep fails to deliver in the same way. The off-beat humor drives the movie, however, it doesn't play nearly as well as the previously mentioned.
When a young man with a fear of sheep returns to childhood farm, he discovers a flock of genetically altered were-sheep who quickly begin turning all the locals into were-sheep. First off, the idea of were-sheep in awkwardly funny and the film's saving grace is the idea of sheep being anything other than innocent and harmless.
Several takes have the sheep standing and staring without know if they are were-sheep or not. It makes for very funny moments. The film also creates a nice ride of twists and turns but the overall humor and execution fails comparably to other in it's genre.
