Review of Black Rock (2012) by Thomas L — 21 May 2013
This film is so horrible in so many ways that it defies any and all explanation for it's creation. When it's not busy trying to imitate Deliverance, The Descent, or Eden lake.. Katie Aselton's foray into directing fills up the gaps with mundane interpersonal squabbling that neither entices nor excites.
You just get the sense that the writers felt that they were onto something really powerful here, unfortunately the potential never arrives. Oh and in case you were wondering.. no there is no redeeming violence, unless poorly choreographed hand to hand struggles with ridiculous outcomes get your blood flowing.
