Review of Black Rain (1989) by Daniel K — 09 May 2008
Scott obviously has a thing for Japan and Japanese culture and architecture. It's interesting how similar the production design in this film is to Blade Runner (obviously different in many ways as well).
This is an excellent and underrated film. It made me want to live in Japan and/or Korea again (as well as watch Blade Runner immediately). This was part of an interesting movement in Hollywood and business during this time period in which Japan (and Sun-Tzu) held a great fascination for many in the West.
It's a great cop thriller as well as buddy/revenge picture. I loved it, despite it's flaws.
