Review of Black Rain (1989) by Tom H — 23 Feb 2009
There's an excellent sense of atmosphere not unlike Blade Runner, but this is a really lousy script and the characters are woefully underdeveloped. The entire second half drags and it's pretty racist.
But the cinematography is so good, you kinda wish Jan De Bont never tried his hand at directing. Speed was cool but Twister, Speed 2, The Haunting...? Some of the worst movies ever. They make Black Rain look like a masterpiece.
