Review of Black Pond (2011) by Dennis R — 30 Jul 2012
Black Pond is a strange film, and I'm not sure I've ever seen anything like it. Part mockumentary, part complex drama; all offbeat in tone - it's a unique film for sure. The moments I found most affecting were the serious dramatic ones in which the level of profoundity is quite impressive and some of the comedic scenes (especially Chris Langham's performance) are hilarious.
Unfortunately these differing tones never gel cohesively and the whole film (from cinematography to acting) has a strong air of student film to it, taking you out of the experience. Nevertheless it's an interesting debut film from Will Sharpe and Tom Kingsley and I look forward to seeing what they do next.
