Review of Black Panther (2018) by Devaughn B — 25 Apr 2018
Not a flawless MCU film, but it's very good. AMAZING cinematography and young Ryan Coogler's direction really stand out here. There is one action sequence with a rather long one-take shot, which Ryan Coogler is known to do as with Creed (one of my favorite films of the last few years) - very well done.
The soundtrack, the film's score from Ludwig Göransson, costume design, and this cast, all outstanding! If there's any justice, this film will lead the pack in Oscar contention for costume design next year.
There are iconic comic book shots that made me so happy to see translated on the big screen; normally I cannot stand the cheesy MCU comedy and tone at times, but everything on that end really worked for me here.
I loved the written dialogue and characters, but mostly, Michael B. Jordan as Killmonger. For me, Michael B. Jordan is truly the star here, stealing the show as he usually does. Preaching relevant social commentary and having understandable motives, this character just may be the next best MCU villain after Loki.
Jordan truly did step into the spotlight here, very well done!
