Review of Black Panther (2018) by Lokendra R — 13 May 2018

I thought this movie was a major disapointment. Essentially superhero movies are plot folly for providing extravagant action scenes and out of this world action sequences. However this movie really only has 3 action scenes.

2 at the beginning and 1 at the end with a very long wait in between. That is simply not enough for a Marvel movie. This film was very plot heavy for a marvel film and not in a good way. I don't think Black characters should have to have the weight of history on them so much.

The plot was too complex and tried to achieve too much. We are all aware the abuses of humainty and civil rights that Black people have suffered historically and how unspeakable it was. However trying to shoe horn all of that into a 2 hr entertainment spectacle leaves no room for the characters and plot to develop.

You tried to achieve too much. I would have much preferred to see the Black Panther as the King of Wakanda facing off against any villain from the Marvel universe. Black Panther is the King Of Wakanda.

He is a good king, that's it....why does his character have to have the pressure of trying to save every Black person in the world...I don't get it. The chracter and the movie suffered by putting the wieght of Black history on it.

Apart from all that when the Black Panther was introduced in Civil War he was powerful, fast, determined, focused, intelligent. The character came across as weak, slow and dumb in this movie. The character also had a lot of mystique in the Civil War movie.

In this movie he loses all his mystique and Chadwick Boseman delivers no charisma despite previously doing so. The Black Panther loses most of his fights against mediocre opposition. It would have been better to see him flying his ship, spying on enemies, training, showcasing his speed, his strength, his agility.

......we see none of this and he comes across as weak. There are so many other negatives and plot holes I want to point out but the review would be far too long. Despite all this I still hold hope for Black Panther's franchise because I think the next movie will not have the weight of history on it and the characters will be allowed to breath as individuals.
