Review of Black Panther (2018) by Mattyice — 17 Feb 2018
Black Panther is up there as one of the MCU's best movies. The acting from everybody is fantastic, especially the two main leads, in Chadwick Boseman and Michael B. Jordan. Unlike many MCU movies, the stakes feel high in spite of the grounded approach to storytelling, the film is shot and composed really well, the art design is fantastic, and, for the first time in seemingly forever, the villains (both Killmonger and Ulysses Klaue) are great.
The plot doesn't break any new ground necessarily and the CG is mediocre when used, but the themes exposed through this plot and the practical elements/effects make up for these shortcomings for the most part.
In the end, Black Panther lives up to a lot of the hype and truly differentiates itself from its MCU counterparts in many great ways. This truly is up there with Iron Man, Avengers, and Guardians of the Galaxy as one of the best movies the MCU has offered.
