Review of Black Panther (2018) by Guapogrande — 16 Feb 2018
Leaving aside the normal 3-act superhero melodrama, which is extremely boring and nothing you haven't seen before, I have to say this movie has some really bizarre wish-fulfillment politics in it. I'm surprised that black viewers aren't more offended by the rather cynical and pandering themes here, and the way it erases the very real difficulties Africa is struggling with in favor of fantasy escapism.
It's doubly obnoxious that this is being done as a cash grab by the Disney corporation, but that's Hollywood for you.
