Review of Black Panther (2018) by Slipperysnake — 18 Feb 2018
Movie has a decent start. I found myself liking the characters(and for once in a Marvel movie they had a soundtrack and good costume design)..but they had no idea what to do with this movie. After first 'act' movie devolves into typical Marvel formula. Coogler ran out of money and time. It's badly paced. Movie feels both too long and too short. Really drags in the second act by act three there are so many plot threads to wrap up that everything is done in a hurry(and is utterly predictable because of this-things have to happen because the movie is almost over!).
Production values, sound, cgi effects take a nosedive after a promising start. Coogler reuses sets. Movie ultimately is dull and the world feels small.
