Review of Black Narcissus (1947) by Bodie D — 05 May 2010
Do you like movies about nuns who move into a whorehouse in the Himalayas and begin to go insane...then you'll LOVE Black Narcissus... an absolutely lucious, Technicolor feast for the eyes, exotic (weird words to describe a film about nuns, I agree.
.. nevertheless)...and captivating film, this story is fantastically intense. A look at the contrapted, religious mind severly boxed up within the rigid structure of the catholic order for nuns, then placed in the crystal clear atmosphere of the world's highest mountain range, while the brain rich in Jesus, but deprived of oxygen tries to reconcile sanity somewhere in the middle.
Or maybe it's just insane to be a nun in the first place, and the reconciliation is in giving up the order...or maybe it's in committing seduction and murder...I LOVE this movie.
