Review of Black Narcissus (1947) by Andy S — 20 Oct 2017
Black Narcissus is a gorgeously shot movie, which is to be expected by Powell and Pressburger. With it's beautiful and isolated filming locations and all of the wonderful Indian-dyed colors, this movie is really like looking at a painting that moves.
There's this dark undertone throughout the movie that's very subtle atmospheric and eerie. Then it fully shows itself at the end within one of the characters in the movie. Very interesting how they built the tension and anticipation.
The important thing this movie shows is that no matter how faithful you are to a religion or what you believe in, we're all human in the end and evilness can find it's way into any and all of us - even nuns lol.
Wonderful movie with stunning visuals and in gorgeous technicolor.
