Review of Black Moon Rising (1986) by Ola G — 05 Apr 2014
Working for the US Government to retrieve a cassette with incriminating evidence from a suspicious company, Sam Quint (Tommy Lee Jones), a former CIA agent and professional thief runs into Marvin Ringer (Lee Ving), another hitman he replaced, who is after the same cassette. In a desperate attempt to evade Ringer and get the tape back to the government official Johnson (Bubba Smith), Quint hides the cassette in a 300-MPH prototype vehicle, the Black Moon, which is on a transporter destined for a public presentation in Los Angeles. Before Quint can recover the cassette, Nina (Linda Hamilton) steals the Black Moon, with Quint on her tail, and returns it to a warehouse, the headquarters for the car thief ring headed by Ed Ryland (Robert Vaughn). Quint must lure Nina into helping him recover the Black Moon, with the help of its driver and his crew, and make it out alive with the cassette and the car before the next day...
"Black Moon Rising" is a classic 80´s heist thriller with a twist in the shape of a special car (that looks slightly ridiculous to be honest). Tommy Lee Jones is solid as Quint and Linda Hamilton the same as Nina. The storyline and editing is somewhat wobbly and not fully satisfying, but there´s still action and suspense. What struck me when re-seeing this was how beautiful Linda Hamilton was/is. Great presence and with an aura that stands out.
