Review of Black Mass (2015) by Matt C — 17 Oct 2015
Black Mass, or better Scott Cooper and Johnny Depp turn an ordinary mafia biopic into an extraordinary film. The script plays it cool and avoids the drama, and normally this turns out bad in such washed-out stories of crime and pride and trust.
But here we have a very talented director with an excellent cast who avoids all the pitfalls of such true stories. It's almost like in the good old Mario Puzo and Francesco Rosi days, realism without sensationalism.
