Review of Black Mass (2015) by Matt H — 06 Jan 2016
Well, at least Depp is trying again. Unfortunately, it's in a movie not worth the effort. Black Mass seems to have something to say about "stuff," I just have no idea what that is because the screenplay is so muddled.
Outside of Crazy Heart, I haven't been very fond of movies by Scott Cooper (and even Crazy Heart's strength was in its acting and characters). He's a journeyman director so far getting A-list casts.
Black Mass's worst fault is that large swaths of it are just boring.
