Review of Black Mass (2015) by Arlene P — 30 Apr 2016
It's uniformly good and Johnny Depp's performance is, despite the content, great fun to watch. So many movies lately are nerve-wrackingly grim but this one transcends the genre, remains authentic, and is still entertainment.
I felt all those excellent actors, at the top of their form, having a good time. It has a less than slick look from the point of view of production standards and it's not all that carefully crafted, but that's just as well.
Not everything has to be "The Godfather" and I hope Depp gets a best actor nomination.
