Whitey Bulger is an ex-convict that hustles in the streets of south Boston. His brother is in the senate and his best friend is in the FBI. Whitey uses his friend in the FBI to takeout his opposition in the streets and extend his territory. His friend in the FBI gets numerous promotions until someone begins questioning his friendship with crime kingpin, Whitey Bulger.
"Just saying can get you buried really fucking quick.".
Scot Cooper, director of Crazy Heart, Out of the Furnace, and the upcoming Hostiles delivers Black Mass. The storyline for this is very intense and well done. The characters are even more compelling since this is based on a true story. The acting is excellent and the cast includes Johnny Depp, Kevin Bacon, Joel Edgerton, Benedict Cumbermatch, and Peter Sarsgaard.
"I can help you and you can help me.".
I have been dying to see this since the previews first aired and I grabbed it the first week it was at Red Box. This reminded me of Public Enemies in its entertainment value. This is very good and entertaining but not Depp's best film (a step down from Blow). I recommend seeing this once but I wouldn't add it to my DVD collection.
