Review of Black Mass (2015) by John935 — 09 Mar 2017
I mostly liked this movie which is lesser than Scorsese and Coppola but determined to carve out its own terms. I've never been a Depp fan and he's no Nicholson but, again, I can't dismiss his performance.
(It helps that the whole cast is very good.) The great organized crime flicks tend to be operatic; this, deliberately, is not. Is it therefore not great? Maybe, but it's an exceptionally watchable 2 hours.
And the morning after I'm still thinking about it.
