Best I have see Johnny Depp. All of the acting was very good and it had to be. A character like that sucked the sole out of everyone around him, he has to be good and so do they to show that and pull it off.
Edgerton, best I've seen him as well. The main part of the story has to be about that relationship, and it was. Not a lot of movies or stories require great acting and deliver, this one does.
