Review of Black Mama, White Mama (1973) by Roberto R — 21 Apr 2008
After several months of Hollywood films, I had to refresh my senses with a 70s exploitation film (which was a mix bag of blaxploitation, women in prison and sex ploitation) with its stereotype characters. Loads of cat fights, shower scenes, sadistic lesbian prison guards and shoot outs! Two prisoners Pam Grier & Margaret Markov escape, but are chained together, one just wants to get off the island with the money she stole from an evil drug lord and the other wants to get back to the revolution! Apparently this is a â??remake of the 1958 classic The Defiant Ones, with the roles reversed this time around.â?? The revolutionaries are just hippies really and every other man is sex mad or a sadist and the women arenâ??t much better. It had the Sam Haig as odd character, I donâ??t understand why he was in the filmâ?¦.but as always, he is a lot of fun to watch.
Also, you have the federal government soldiers and the drug baronâ??s men after the convicts. During their journey, they have a decent cat fight while wearing skimpy clothes and later dressed as nuns; then they (as you do) become friends!
