Review of Black Hawk Down (2001) by Carter Y — 06 Dec 2010
A stunningly intense and extremely realistic account of the 1993 Battle of Mogadishu in which an American military operation gone wrong leads to a full-scale battle between 123 U.S. Army Rangers and Delta Force and thousands of heavily armed Somali militia.
'Black Hawk Down' is a modern warfare masterpiece and without question one of the finest war movies of all time. The film, unlike the meticulously book by Mark Bowden on which it is based, does exercise a degree of artistic licesne, but its thrilling account of the now infamous battle is, nevertheless, largely faithful to the facts.
Above all, 'Black Hawk Down' serves as a well-deserved tribute to the heroism and bravery of the U.S. armed forces in general and elite and special forces in particular.
